Big trip to the Balkans
Category : TripsBalkan
We offer you a great and exciting trip to the countries of the Balkan Peninsula (Croatia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Montenegro, Serbia and Albania).
We recommend to devote the main time to a trip to Montenegro. This is a fabulously beautiful country, which should be given more of your attention. It is convenient to park there, excellent roads, amazing nature, a loyal attitude of the police to parking in nature (unlike Croatia) and a lot of interesting and fascinating things.
We remind you that before traveling to Croatia, decide where you would like to go and if your desires do not coincide with the route we have proposed, be sure to choose a campsite for your vacation. This is the only country where the law on the prohibition of parking outside the campsite is strictly monitored. To select a campsite, you can use the function “SEARCH CAMPING”. When visiting a site with a camping search, it is most convenient to use the map search function.
Welcome!

Drvengrad was created by Serbian director Emir Kusturica. The director visited the idea of creating such a place when he shot the film “Life as a Miracle” in places near the Mechavnik Hill.
The city-hotel is in a place with unique natural beauties. All streets and squares of the city bear the names of personalities revered by the ideological inspirer of Drvengrad – Kusturica. Among them are Bergman, Chegevara, Maradonna, Tarkovsky, Filini and Mikhalkov. The main house of the city, in which Kusturica lives, is located on Bruce Lee Street. There is a prison in the city. There are already two prisoners in it, who, according to Kusturica, are the most important international criminals. From behind the bars of the grill, George W. Bush and Javier Solana look at the tourists.
Those who wish to have a cultural rest can visit the cinema named after Stanley Kubrick or the library on the main street of Drvengrad, where more than 10,000 books are stored. Every year, starting from 2008, the Kustendorf Film and Music Festival is held in Mechavnik. The idea of creating the festival, owned by Kusturica, consists in showing films free of Hollywood influence. Emir believes that Hollywood poses a threat to author’s cinema. Kusturica chose Bruce Willis as the personification of Hollywood. The fight with which, one way or another, takes place within the framework of each festival. So, in 2008, the festival held a demonstration funeral for all parts of the movie “Die Hard” with Willis in the title role. And six years later, Emir Kusturica and Bruce Willis fought in a virtual duel. Needless to say, the latter was defeated and literally split into popcorn.
The festival hosts various musical performances and, of course, films are shown. The main prize of the festival is a golden egg. Kusturica’s guests were many famous film figures, among whom were Nikita Mikhalkov, Johnny Depp, Kim Ki-Duk and others.

Albania
Unknown and unexplored Albania. The ancestors of modern Albanians are Illyrians, crusaders …. For a long time it was socialistly directed, rejected any faith, had a totalitarian regime of government and, of its own free will, was in international isolation with its own course of development. Fearing an invasion from all of its neighbors, more than 700 thousand bunkers were built in socialist Albania, one for 4 inhabitants of the country. The density of the bunkers is 24 pieces per square kilometer.
Small bunkers were located in groups of 3 or more pieces, in places of the most likely enemy attack. Some bunkers have survived to this day and are reminiscent of those times. The recent history of Albania is characterized by massive unemployment, huge inflation, the development and spread of mafia groups, the presence of financial pyramids that lead to impoverishment of the population.
Today’s Albania is a young, open and rapidly developing country. If you decide to visit Albania on a motorhome, it is most convenient to stop for an overnight stay in campsites, of which there are not many.
